Stalking Me...

The other day, Wednesday, we had a landscaper come to check out the front yard where I want to plant some trees and bushes.  There are multiple reasons for the plantings.
  1. To effect a repair of an area destroyed by the neighbors' donkeys;
  2. To serve as a visual barrier between the yards;
  3. To hide from view their destroyed property, which is an eyesore, and the piles of trash that litter the place;
  4. To help serve as somewhat of a 'noise break';
  5. To help serve as a windbreak; and
  6. To, hopefully, create a better curbside appeal, to show that most of us in this neighborhood have some pride of ownership.
Yesterday, after speaking with the landscaper on the phone, I was in my front yard, staring down the fence line, looking at the damage, and conceptualizing where we are going to place three tall pine trees and some wire fencing to protect them from the neighbors' donkeys.  I also scoped out dead & dying trees and shrubs for the landscape crew to remove...  trees & shrubs on my property that have been killed by the neighbors' donkeys.

So, while I'm out there, one of the neighbors just had to come outside to stare at me.  I don't know if they were trying to intimidate me, harass me, or what.  Nothing was said, they just stared.  It was most uncomfortable as I kept expecting a bullet in my back. If I walked anywhere, they followed, never saying anything...  just staring...  kinda like a stalker.  They are just rude.

They say, "good fences make good neighbors".  Seeing that fence should tell you something.  I can't fix it, it's their property and it's posted.  I took a chance once before to keep an animal from ingesting a plastic bag, not again.  After all, in their own words, if I were to trespass or bother their property, they could, "blow me away".  Nice....  huh....

Elaine, you cannot realistically believe that either Dorothea or Andrew, or anyone they would have contact with, would intentionally do anything to harm you. This is not an old western movie, you are human beings living real lives. It isn't gangland or posse country either. If they were manufacturing meth, I would see your fears as valid, but for Christ's sake, they are helping abused and neglected animals, not criminals!

Send them a bill for replacing the dead trees. Sadly, if they won't care enough about their livestock to fix their fences, YOU get to be the responsible one.

I agree that the donkey rescue is an eyesore. I wouldn't want to live next to that either. However, you can't really blame the donkeys. It's the homeowners neglect and lack of pride of ownership that have caused their home and property to look that way. Many of us that have animals keep a tidy property and make an effort to make it esthetically pleasing to our neighbors.

Gotta say, the neighbors may not be "posse country" or "do anything to harm you", however if this is the case, they really should stop posting in a public place that their "former sniper with a background of his own" is coming to town. And not once have I heard Elaine say anything about it being the donkeys' fault-it's the "rescuers" fault! Animals can't choose who "rescues" them.

10Elaine, you can do something about the fence where the donkeys reach over.
Where I live, I have cattle that tear up my fence. Their owner is really good about fixing it but he went one step farther & put up a new fence 2 feet into his own pasture.
As for you, you can reset fence post on the same fence line, if you don't want the donkeys reaching over the fence put a hot wire on your side, it must have a small warning sign stating it is there. the sign isn't very big.

survish196I am new to this blog but I do want to say I know Andrew and Dorothea. They would never do anything to harm you. In fact they at one time enjoyed being your neighbor. With all the legal issues involved with getting a permit especially when neighbors are blocking it getting a fenced fixed is the last thing on a rescues mind. I think it is a great idea putting trees up also you could put up a large wooden fence and you wouldn't have to see them or the donkeys. I think that would be the best solution. You could also put up a sound wall, just an idea. Another thing when you buy property you CANNOT control who your neighbors are. If you plan to stay in Edgewood my suggestion is you learn to get along instead of making hell for yourself which you must be in alot of misery and your neighbors it is only going to effect your health. Another solution is you could sell your place and move where there is no one. But that would be awfully lonely. I hope you make peace with yourself. I am sorry that you can't see a way to help rescue animals. I am a animal activist they do not have a voice. But let me tell you not all animal activist are the same. I have spoken my peace and Elaine, I hope you reconsider your choices I think you will be happier. I also choose not to be anonymous so that you will know who I am. I am not afraid to speak out for animals. I volunteer with the Humane Society, and other dog rescues. And now with Dorothea and Andrew. I hope you have the courage to post this. If you do not. Then I know where you are coming from. My intentions are to help create peace so we can all get on with our very busy lives and stop all this nonsense. Thank you for reading this.

Susanna, the "sniper" and neighborhood watch comments were about an incident where someone ran over their sign with a truck, and on another day someone draped a road kill animal over their fencepost. They felt endangered. It had nothing to do with Elaine, and I don't know why she posted it here.

Dear Elaine,

I believe you are a caring person who wants ELS to continue helping abused and neglected donkeys, but you just don't want them doing so next door to you! It is my understanding that they too feel their present location is not optimum for a variety of reasons. Part of their reason for seeking official status is to enable them to collect more donations, thus enabling them to relocate. So in effect, your efforts to prevent their official status is also preventing them from being able to do what you would like them to, that is move away from you and take their donkeys with them. It would better serve your interests to not only help them obtain official status as a rescue, but to also help them find a more suitable location. The operative word is HELP, is that not what neighbors are supposed to do? Help them, and you will be helping yourself. As long as they remain at their current status, they will have little choice but to remain next door to you.

If one wants to "create peace" then some consideration needs to be taken for Elaine's personal property as well. Telling her to bear the expense of creating sound walls and other nonsense as well as accusing her of not caring about helping abused animals is pure nonsense - and to be expected from "animal activists" who have not a care in the world for people's rights. What would make Elaine happier is not "reconsidering her choices" when it comes to the neighboring donkey rescue - it would be getting a proper good night's sleep!!! Constant interrupted sleep is damaging to one's health!! Not to mention having one's property destroyed along her personal fenceline due to the inconsiderateness of the donkeys' owners.

Robert Easley,

Please resubmit your comment. I mistakenly deleted it. Sorry about that. I really would like to have it reposted.

Robert's comment, which I mistakenly deleted, went something along the lines of...

nobody's telling me (Elaine) to bear any expense, something about starting this blog, the neighbor's keeping donkeys for more than a year and our only just now losing sleep, and then ragging on me because we hunt prairie dogs.

I really would like him to resubmit it.

Elaine, nobody is telling you to bear any expense, you started this blog by saying you were planning to do so of your own accord.

They've been keeping lots of donkeys for well more than a year, how is it you just now started losing sleep due to their noise?

I was wrong to say that you care about helping donkeys. One cannot care about animals one day then go shooting little prairie dogs for fun the next day.

I don't know what you call it in the country, but in the city we call it being full of a certain objectionable substance.

p.s. - I thought you were a nice lady who just wants peace and quiet

Thank you for reposting. Much appreciated.

Just remember, there are always two sides to every story. None of the affected parties have answered any of the comments because any & all answers will be twisted & turned by Dorothea. So, why bother... The comment to the one post from the neighborhood shows that in spades.

Thank you again for reposting.
